In Beautiful Boy, David Sheff writes about his drug use, including his experience with crystal meth. David also states that he shared his drug history with Nic while he was a teenager. Do you think David sharing his drug history with Nic had anything to do with Nic's free fall into addiction? Explain your answer. Also, in general, do you believe parents should share their past drug use with their children? Explain why or why not.
I think him telling Nic about his prior drug use had a large impact on Nic and helped cause him to become addicted. I think so because Nic thought that since his dad did drugs he was just a hypocrite trying to tell him what to do. In general I do think that parents should tell their children about their past drug use but when the child is at a mature age and is able to weigh the consequences.

David sharing his drug history with Nic,mostlikely influence him to do it because his curiosity. David knew it was bad to do drugs, but he still did them. Just as how Nic would have start to see it. In general i believe it depends on the age if the parent should discuss with their kids about past drug use. Discussing with their children at a young age can make them feel a bit anxious, but discussing it after a certain age such as. 16 or 17 then that will be a bit more helpful.

Yes, it had a big impact. Nic saw that his dad used drugs and turned out okay, and figured if he did the same he would eventually turn out okay. But at the same time David probably didn't tell Nic everything. Maybe david had to go through rehab, maybe he got close to near death experiences. Nic never asked that in the moment and just took it upon his self that he should just do the same, not knowing the boundaries or risks. Yes parents should have the talk about drugs with their children but at the same time make sure they ENFORCE them not to do it, and tell them the risk and things that could happen if they do it.
